How To Be Productive This Semester and Stay On-Task Image via unsplash.com Out with the old and in with the new A great way to kickstart the new term is to start off with an organized study space. Sort through your current study space to weed out things you do not actually need for the new term. Old textbooks? Try reselling them for some money for this terms textbooks, or shelving them for later use if you think you will need them. Used notebooks? Sort through them to see if they have any information that will help you in later classes or recycle them if you no longer have any use for them. Get rid of old papers and worksheets of past classes, broken pens, or other items you will not be needing. Decluttering your space before the new term with let you start out the term with a clean, organized space. You wont have to sort through old books and papers every time you sit down to do coursework, and a cleaner space makes way for a clearer mind. If treating yourself to new stationery and school supplies helps you feel more excited about doing your schoolwork, do not be afraid to splurge a little to have you a little more mentally prepared for the new term. Fill out your planner Once you have the syllabus for each course you are taking this term, start filling out your planner. Whether its in a planner that you carry with you everywhere or a digital calendar like Google Calendar, its important to fill out a planner of some type so that you are always aware of your time commitments and deadlines throughout the term. Find out a method that works for you. Emphasizing bigger deadlines, or choosing to include your day-to-day commitments. Color coding by class or type of assignment, or using different symbols to highlight different deadlines. What works for one students planner may not work for you, so do not be afraid to design your planner on a trial-and-error basis. Improvisation is key. Make a study plan After you have filled out your planner and look at each syllabus, try making a study plan that you can follow throughout the term. It can be as detailed as you think it needs to be. You can start out with big deadlines to avoid feeling overwhelmed from the get-go. Start listing out your quizzes, midterms, essays, and finals. Work your way down to smaller assignments like discussion posts, reading responses, and readings. You can make separate ones for classes if you would prefer, but its important to remember that the schedule for each class you are taking will continuously impact the other. While one week may look relaxed for one class, it may be packed for another class. Try designing your study plan with all of your classes in mind, one easy week or night for one class may mean that you might spend a little more time on another class that has a ton of work. Making a study plan early on in the term gives you a guide for being productive, and will help make you accountable for school work when you can see what you should be doing when you think theres nothing to do. Remember that the study plan isnt definitive, and you can always adjust it as you see fit. Get a study buddy (or two) When classes do start, try to make at least one friend in each of your classes that you can call a study buddy. Get their contact information so that you can contact each other for questions. These questions can be as simple as clarifying assignments or sending each other links that you deem helpful for the course. If you are lucky, your study buddy will actually want to study with you outside of class. Getting a study buddy that wants to well in the class just like you do will help encourage you to be productive in the class when someone else can hold you accountable to maintain good studying habits. Take advantage of the new term to boost productivity and maintain good studying habits until the end. Best of luck!

This weekâs goal was to prepare a little something in Portuguese to practise and record on camera. So after 11 lessons here it is! Almost half way through the Language Challenge now. Exciting stuff! Oh, and by the way, italki are running a Cheer Contest to find out how different people cheer in different countries. Take a look and maybe enter! Kidneys are the excretory organs in human beings. Each kidney is made up of millions of nephrons. Each nephron is composed of spherical structure called Malphigian body and a convoluted tubule. Malphigian body consists of a large double walled cup called Bowmans capsule enclosing a network of capillaries called glomerulus. The inner layer of Bowmans capsule is formed of specialized epithelial cells called podocytes. A podocyte meets the basement membrane only by a processes called the foot cells which have 25nm gaps, the slit pores or filtration slits. The space between the outer parietal layer and the inner epithelial layer is called capsular space. A central network of blood capillaries called glomerulus is almost entirely surrounded by the Bowmans capsule. The blood flows through the glomerulus under high pressure .The reason for this great pressure is that the efferent arteriole (outgoing arteriole ) is narrower than the afferent (incoming) arteriole .This high pressure causes the liquid part of the blood to filter out from the glomerulus into the funnel shaped cavity of the bowmans capsule and from there to the renal tubule. This filtration under extra ordinary force is called ultra-filtration.

Lean forward at the hips, resting your head and torso on the pillows.Make sure that your entire torso is supported as well as your head. You do not want your head dangling down off the edge of the blanket. If needed, arrange your yoga blocks in front of your blankets so that your head can rest on them.Your arms should drape down on either side of your torso support. Hold the pose for 10-20 minutes.If you feel any discomfort â" in your knees, shoulders or ankles, ease out of the position.Supported Bridge PoseLying on your back with your knees raised, place your feet shoulder-width apart. Place a yoga block under your sacrum so that your hips are elevated.You may lace your hands over your stomach or lay them out at 45 degrees from your body, what is called âcactusingâ. If you cactus your arms, make sure your palms are face-up.For an extra challenge, you may position the block under your sacrum on its narrow side to raise your hips higher. You might also place your feet at the edges of your mat and bring your knees together so that you donât strain to hold your legs in position.Hold the pose for 10-20 minutes.Reclining Bound Angle PoseLying supine on your mat, pull your feet toward your pelvis. With the soles of your feet together, place blocks under each knee so that the stretch to your inner thigh muscles wonât be so great.Cactus your arms or place your fingers on your abdomen. Hold the pose for between 10 and 20 minutes.Supported Forward Fold PoseSeated on your mat with your legs straight out in front of you, place a bolster under your thighs, close to your knees. On your legs, stack your pillows or blanket.Bend forward at the waist until your torso and head are resting on the pillows. Your arms hang along the pillows; your palms should face upward.Hold for 10-20 minutes.Legs Up The Wall PoseFor this pose, you will obviously need a wall; your mat should be perpendicular to it.Sitting with the wall on your left side, ease sideways until you are laying on your mat. Bring your legs up until you are lying on your back; your body should mould to the angle formed by the floor and the wall.Hold the pose for 10-20 minutes and then flow into savasana, or Corpse pose.If you are familiar with yoga breathing techniques, these asanas are a prime opportunity to focus on breathing but if not, no worries; you will find yourself deep-breathing as your body relaxes.If you are currently in yoga teacher training, learning how to sequence a restorative yoga class is particularly valuable because you can gain experience teaching by helping out in other classes.And, if you are experienced in many different yoga styles, it might not hurt for you to take a restorative yoga class every on ce in a while, to take a break from the more advanced yoga that you might normally practise.This gentle yoga has something for everyone but are there guidelines for sequencing any yoga class?

ACT English Tips At first, the English section of the ACT may seem insurmountable. You must select the best and most grammatically sound option from complex and sophisticated choices. At times, it may seem as though each answer is equally correct or incorrect. You will also be asked about the purpose, organization, and style of passages, which may be dense and difficult to understand. If you struggle in english you may want to consider an ACT english tutorwho can help you with your studies or aprep book. However, there are several strategies you can apply to the English portion of the ACT in order to make questions more comprehensible and to maximize your score: 1. Answer simple questions first Questions in the English section are ordered by their location within the passages, not their difficulty. As you progress through the selection, address easy questions first generally, these are ones that ask about grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. Skip the more difficult problems those that ask large questions about the main point of the passage or the purpose of the author until you finish reading the piece and have a strong sense of its meaning. If you are stopped by a particular question, move on you will earn the same points for problems irrespective of difficulty, so do not waste your time on one when you could be quickly answering two or three in the same amount of time.Here are some great tips on how to prep for the ACT english sectionthat you may find useful. 2. Context is important Even when you are correcting grammar or sentence structure, it may be helpful to understand the larger context. If the answer has correct grammar but changes the meaning of the sentence or phrase, it is most certainly the wrong choice. If the underlined portion is only several words in length, read the entire sentence; if a sentence is underlined, skim the sentence immediately before and after in order to locate the context. 3. Finish the passage before moving on Time is crucial on this section and the ACT as a whole. Here, questions are related to one of five reading passages. If you return to a question later, you will most likely have to reread the selection to remember its content. This wastes valuable time. Instead, answer all questions in the passage before addressing the next piece, even if you have to make educated guesses. This is some great information onhow the ACT is scored that you may want to take a look a before taking the test. 4. Embrace the No Change answer On usage and mechanics questions in the English portion, you are presented with the option of choosing the original form of the underlined portion as the correct answer. Since the ACT gives equal odds to each answer choice on the exam, there is a 25% chance that No Change will be the correct response. Often, students are compelled to always choose another answer, or to believe that the No Change option is a trap. However, it is the valid choice one out of four times, so be certain to consider it when answering problems. 5. Eliminate answer choices This is a useful tip on all the sections of the ACT. Consider all four answers and then eliminate those that are clearly wrong. You will not have to compare all the possibilities in order to determine the correct one. Nor will you be influenced by an incorrect answer that is addressing a different grammatical concept or that is changing the meaning of the underlined portion.
